Self Reliance

Gaining the Understanding, Ability and Resources to Act Independently while Navigating the Challenges of Life.

The generationally poor lack education, opportunity and basic life skills.  They are often rooted in “a culture of poverty” evidenced in a loss of hope and a reliance on chance.   

We believe Self Reliance is foundational to establishing and sustaining a prosperous life.  It is a core tenant in our work with the poor, the programs we create to help them and the operational framework of the Rise and Rebuild. 

Self Reliance & The Poor

We seek to help the poor through:
  • School and community nutrition programs which facilitate better education for children.
  • In-home lessons for mother in nutrition, sanitation, health and other critical life skills enabling them to better care for their children.
  • Job creation and technical vocational training specifically for the poor.

Self Reliance & Our Employees

The majority of our workforce is from the unemployed poor.  We offer them:

  • Practical job skills in various aspects of hydroponic farming.
  • Critical job soft skills - accountability, punctuality, teamwork, work ethics,...
  • Basic life skills -  goal setting & planning; money management & budgeting; core health habits,...

Eighty percent of our employe base work in one of the many hydroponic based farming jobs. Prior to being hired nearly all were unemployed and among the extreme poor earning $800 to $1100 annually.  Most have a 2nd or 3rd grade education, some are illiterate and nearly all had families that were malnourished.

With employment at Rise and Rebuild their incomes grow by two to three hundred percent.  They also receive health and social security benefits for the first time in their lives.  Additionally their families are no longer malnourished.


In addition to increased income and benefits, we also provide technical job skills and self-reliance training including practical life skills.
